Rugged capability has always been a hallmark of the SUVs and pickup trucks bearing Ford’s signature blue oval badge, but now there’s a new badge set to separate even Ford’s heartiest offerings from the competition—and that’s the badging found on the all-new Timberline trim. Read on to learn more about the upcoming Timberline series with the heart of all things Ford in Alberta: Fort Saskatchewan’s Heartland Ford.

What is Timberline?

Timberline is Ford’s newest trim series devoted to creating more rugged looking and capable off-road vehicles. Through a series of factory modifications, tuning, and specialized equipment, Timberline vehicles will provide the ability to explore nature and your surroundings with more confidence than ever before.

What separates the Timberline vehicles from the rest of the Ford lineup?

Taking your vehicle off-road certainly makes for a more adventurous drive than down to the market, and as such Ford Timberline vehicles are equipped with hardier materials and specialized performance parts. Expect increased ground clearance, greater approach and departure angles, and steel skid plates placed under the body of your Ford. Likewise, specially-tuned shocks, springs, and stabilizer bars work with larger all-terrain tires to greatly enhance the comfort of your drive on rockier terrain, while other systems—like the Torsen® limited-slip differential found on the Explorer Timberline—will help provide control in a variety of circumstances and road conditions.

What Ford vehicles offer the Timberline trim package?

2021 Ford Explorer Timberline

The 2021 Ford Explorer was the first Ford vehicle to offer the Timberline package in its trims, offering a variety of additions and modifications making it incredibly capable off-road. From its unique grille with Ford Performance auxiliary lights, to the 18-inch High Gloss Black-painted aluminum wheels with laser-etched Timberline logo, wrapped in Bridgestone Dueler all-terrain tires, the 2021 Ford Explorer Timberline certainly looks the part. However, it’s the standard Intelligent All-Wheel Drive and Terrain Management systems that really help propel the Explorer Timberline forward through the most treacherous terrain.

2022 Ford Expedition Timberline

Next up, a host of off-road and adventure-ready equipment and features, including best-in-class ground clearance of 10.6-inches, will be found on the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline trim. A High Output 3.5-litre EcoBoost engine provides plenty of power, while the available Trail Control and class-exclusive Trail Turn Assist technologies will help you master any road you find yourself on—whether it’s paved or not! 32-inch all-terrain tires, standard 18-inch High Gloss Black-painted aluminum wheels, a 2-speed transfer case, and ControlTrac with Electronic Limited Slip Differential round out some of the impressive features found on the Expedition Timberline.

While the Ford Bronco, Bronco Sport, Tremor, Raptor, and Ranger all offer serious off-road capability, the new Timberline trim lineup combines that capability with the smooth, stylish, comfortable, and spacious options found throughout the rest of Ford’s SUV and truck lineup.
